Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat, Cambodia – 2018. Angkor Wat is the best preserved and best known of the Angkor monuments. It was constructed during the reign of Suryavarman II in the first half of the 12th century and was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. It is a richly decorated and very large temple - the total temple area including the moat measures 1.5 kilometers long by 1.3 kilometers wide. It has many intricate and well preserved bas reliefs with depictions of scenes from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as many relief carvings of female devatas, a Hindu celestial being or deity.
